For over three decades, Kate Kirkham has researched, taught and consulted about the dynamics of difference in organizations. She is currently the Director of a two-year MOB program that is transitioning to a track emphasis in the MBA program. She has also been Associate Director of the EMBA.
Her research focus is on the traditionally dominant group members in US organizations and their roles, perceptions, behavior, etc. as participants in a diverse workforce or community. She has taught an elective, graduate seminar on discrimination and difference in organizations since 1980. She has developed numerous materials including the model “Dimensions of Diversity: A Diagnostic Framework” © and proprietary products for companies related to oppressive work environments. Her additional teaching and research interests include the dynamics of small group dynamics and systemic change in organizations. She has received many teaching awards including the University’s Maeser Distinguished Teaching Award.
She is also a senior associate with Elsie Y. Cross, Associates, a diversity and organizational consulting firm based in Philadelphia. She has managed long-term diversity change efforts with client systems such as Corning and consulted with other corporations including Amoco, Shell USA, American Express, etc. She was selected by Royal Dutch Shell’s international diversity committee to work with their leadership and a worldwide representative of managers. She has also consulted with volunteer and community groups.
In 2001, she was named as one of the top thirty innovative women in Utah by Utah Business Magazine.
